"SAMUEL WAS!"
© 1999 Patricia L. Carpenter
Samuel was Israel’s last judge
for they wanted themselves a king,
God sternly ‘warned’ them *
but ‘for a king’ ~ they did sing.
Sad to say they ‘rejected’ GOD
& didn’t ‘want’ Him any more,
Little did they comprehend
what ‘great sadness’ was in store.
They wanted to be like other nations *
& so they chose a man named Saul,
He was very handsome
& stood very, very tall. *
At first, Saul was humble *
but became very ‘proud’ indeed,
He was to worship only God *
& Him alone he was to heed.
Samuel never ceased to ‘pray’ *
for the people he had served,
Seeking to teach them to do ‘good’
he never lost his nerve. *
After only a ‘year’ *
Saul began to ‘disobey’,
And this was only the ‘beginning’
of Israel’s sad dismay.
Soon a man named David
was chosen by God Himself,
For He loved His people very much
& didn’t want them on a ‘shelf’.
Unusable because of sin
God really wanted them to win!
Yet as we read the Bible
over & over they REJECTED ‘God’,
So like us today, I’m afraid
who live upon this sod.
I pray we learn from history
& heed God’s warnings to us,
Just exactly what will happen
if we REJECT ~ J-E-S-U-S!
For He’s the ONLY WAY to Heaven *
He shed His Blood for you & me,
That we might have Eternal Life *
& ‘live’ in V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! *
